The Legendary Story of Rozafa:
According to folklore, the fortress could not be built – whatever was constructed during the day would collapse overnight. Three brothers, all masons, decided to sacrifice the first woman who came to visit them. That woman was Rozafa, the youngest brother’s wife. She willingly agreed to be walled in but asked that one breast, one eye, and one hand be left outside the wall – so she could nurse, watch, and caress her child.
This touching story of sacrifice and maternal love has been passed down through generations and made Rozafa an eternal symbol of faith and devotion.
