Log churches were built in the period from the 15th to the beginning of the 20th century, during the Turkish occupation. They were built in secluded places during the time of the Ottoman Empire in these areas. The main reason for the construction of wooden churches was the speed and simplicity of construction and easily available materials that easily fit into the environment and was a kind of camouflage. There are about 80 preserved on the territory of Serbia. They are listed on the list of monuments of special importance. They are all built in a similar style, it is believed that many of them were built by the same builders. One of the most beautiful examples is the Log Church dedicated to the Ascension of Christ in the village of Dub on the territory of Bajina Bašta, in the Zlatibor district. It is believed to have been built in 1792 and renovated in 1828. It was built on the foundations of an older church. In those periods of time when the Rača monastery was in ruins, the Log Church in Dub played the role of a spiritual center in those areas.Until 1885, this church was the monastery of the Rača monastery, and then it gained independence and its own parish. In 1916, the Austro-Hungarian army set a fire in which the archives of this church were completely burned, so that although the restoration of the church was still beyond the one in 1828 .year, there are no saved data about them
